Muhanga Prison inmates win over cultural week
Most of the prisoners in Muhanga Main Prison say they have learnt a lot about Rwandan culture because they have a lot of time for learning, discussing and practicing about the traditional culture.

This was revealed on Saturday the 7th Sept 2013 during the closure of the cultural week in Muhanga district. The Cultural gala that was prepared by the Muhanga district offered rewards to the people that would win the cultural competitions and most of them were won by Prisoners in Muhanga Prison.
The secret behind the well performance of these prisoners is because they have enough time to train and practice about Rwandan culture. They have some inmates who are experts in traditional dances, poetry, riddles and songs among others that are the basis of Rwandan culture who train them.
“We have enough time to reflect and act on our dreams in the prison. We also have enough time to learn, practice and train on our culture and we have troupe inmates, it is not easy for people in other environments to win over us” says one of Muhanga Prison Inmates.
Some of the cultural components that were competed in the cultural week of Muhanga district included traditional dances, songs, poetry and traditional Rwandan Board games. Muhanga Prison inmates won about 6 rewards and it was presented by 2 traditional troupes.
In the poetry competition, the first of the three awarded people was a Muhanga Prison inmate while the Prison orchestra was also the first in singing part. The 2nd winner in the singing completion was also an inmate while the 4th was a security guard of the prison known as Sgt Clarissa.
The cultural week was being celebrated in all parts of the country and started on 30th.August 2013 and ended on the 7th of September 2013 in Muhanga district.
